The GeoMetron G16 was THE bike that brought modern geo to the fore. There were some brands and people that sparked the movement and some copycats claimed to be the first. But I think these guys really committed and brought it to market.
Ever since I first rode the G16 in 2016, I praised it (my Pinkbike article is still online) and struggled against a lot of backlash for ages. 6years later and the geo is still cutting edge and it’s clear to see the influence now in many bikes from big brands and the opinions of media and riders.
The G1 is the updated version of the G16. The G1 boasts a full DH-spec downtube, a wider range of sizes and the ‘Mutators.’ The guys at GeoMetron designed the G1 to be modular, this is made possible by those little blocks of black alloy on the seatstay and chainstay. This means you can have multiple chainstay lengths, travel, and wheel size all in one package by simply changing these blocks.
The G1 is the only frame I can truly recommend because I’ve had nearly 15x Nicolai-built bikes over the years and never had a single problem with any one of them. They are built by an honest brand in Germany, they are built to function in the mountains and not to hit a magical weight on the scales. For durability they only use tougher 7020 alloy, have double sealed bearings, all threads use replaceable inserts and there is a ten-year minimum guarantee that you will be able to buy spare parts from Nicolai.
Suspension wise the frame comes with an EXT Storia shock giving 162/175mm travel. The high-end damper is hand created in Italy and is designed to suit this bike perfectly in conjunction with GeoMetron. Coil sprung with an internal coil negative and plenty of oil and shim. A low-pressure single-tube work of art. Floating on spherical bearings for minimal awkward shock loading. Tuned to match rider weight, style and bike configuration.
